Sons of Allen

MEN'S FELLOWSHIP OF THE

AFRICAN METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH

In 1984, the African Methodist Episcopal Church created the Sons of Allen Men’s Fellowship to foster closer relationships between men of the church, to equip men of the church for meaningful service, to reach unchurched men, and to present positive role models for our youth. The Sons of Allen has grown into an important connectional movement over the past twenty-plus years and the Fellowship is becoming a true connectional ministry. The challenges and disturbing realities facing African American men call for a response from the church.

Our Music Ministry is led by Brother Bryant O. Dingle (Directory of Music) and Sister Phyllis Lawson. Asante Barfield is the accompanying percussionist.

Liberty Hill has four choirs that ministers to the congregation each Sunday. On occasion, the choirs combine to form a Mass Choir.

First Sunday -- The Sanctuary Choir ministers with traditional AME hymns and traditional gospel selections.

Second Sunday -- The Youth and Sunbeam Choir is made up of YPD members. In addition to AME Hymns, this choir ministers gospel selections with a youthful flair.

Third Sunday -- The New Vision Choir ministers with more contemporary gospel selections in addition to traditional AME Hymns.

Fourth Sunday -- The Male Chorus ministers with contemporary gospel and quartet type selections along with traditional AME Hymns.

In September of 2002, a group of members of the Historic Liberty Hill A. M. E. Church under the direction of Mrs. Yolanda G. Neal, thought it would be fitting to create a ministry that would recognize and show appreciation to the seniors of the church. This ministry was named, The Grandparents Ministry in honor of Mrs. Neal’s Grandmother, Mrs. Annie V. Gibson, who was a faithful and dedicated member of Historic Liberty Hill A. M. E. Church.

Annually, the Grandparent’s ministry takes pride in hosting an elegant affair where they recognize and honor the seniors within the church who play a significant role and have made a great impact in the lives of their grandchildren and the children of the church. During this event awards and gifts are given to acknowledge the accomplishments of some but at the end of the event, everyone leaves with a gift.

The Grandparents' Ministry also hosts special programs and/or gifts for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day and Easter.
